Dianthus is a genus of flowering plants that includes numerous species commonly known as carnations, pinks, and sweet williams. These plants are characterized by their vibrant, often fragrant flowers with serrated petals and a spicy fragrance. Dianthus plants typically have narrow, grass-like leaves and form compact mounds or clumps. They are popular ornamental plants in gardens and landscapes due to their long-lasting blooms and wide range of colors, including pink, red, white, and purple. Dianthus species can vary in size from small, low-growing varieties suitable for edging borders or rock gardens to taller types suitable for cut flower arrangements. They prefer well-drained soil and full sun to thrive.
